---- Chapter 5 "What did you just say, Uncle Steve? What do you mean by 'leaving the country'?" Zeke asked. "Haven't you heard?" Steve replied. "Joanna is leaving the country soon. In fact, I think this is the last time we're going to have a meal with her for the foreseeable future. It'll be quite difficult to meet up with her when she travels abroad." Steve didn't know about my relationship with Zeke. So, he wasn't surprised that the latter didn't know about my plans. Zeke's eyes welled up with tears when he heard that. Without a second thought, he got up and proceeded to drag me out of the room with him. I stood in the corner and didn't say a word. Moments later, he broke the silence. "You're going abroad? What are you saying? Why didn't you discuss this with me? Why didn't you ---- tell me about it?" His voice was trembling. He looked shocked and afraid. When I snapped back into my senses, I replied, " Oh, this? You and Scarlett were at the amusement park when I got the news. So, I didn't want to disturb you." I spoke in a polite yet detached tone. It instantly made me and Zeke feel more distant than we already were. Upon hearing my reply, he looked slightly awkward. Despite that, he still held my hand and said, "At the end of the day, I'm still your boyfriend. No matter what happens, you should still tell me about what's going on in your life." I nodded, but I felt incredibly confused. Prior to this, I used to tell Zeke about everything that happened to me in excruciating detail. ---- However, he didn't seem to enjoy my updates. "I'm not interested in what's going on in your life. Stop sending me crap like this-it's taking up the storage on my phone," he snapped at me once. After being silent for a while, he asked, 'How long will you be gone?" I thought about it for a moment and decided to lie to him. "Probably two to three years," I replied. "You'll be gone for that long?" he exclaimed in disbelief. I lowered my head and didn't respond. The air between us felt tense. He suddenly sighed. Afterward, he looked at me and said, "Let's head home together later." His face was brimming with anticipation. He was eagerly waiting for my response.
