---- Chapter 8 The cemetery staff told me that moving the grave would require signatures from both parties. I knew very well that Ethan would never sign it. With that, I could only wait until the mate bond was officially broken. But the Silver family would never agree to that. It didn't matter to them whether Ethan loved me or I was happy. As long as I remained the best candidate to maintain the pack's superficial peace, they would oppose breaking the bond. I leaned against the steering wheel, hand gently resting on my still-flat belly. A thought slowly surfaced in my mind. Suddenly, a knock sounded on the car window. Ethan stood there, frowning, his amber eyes fixed sharply on the hand I had laid over my abdomen. ---- "Are you feeling sick?" he slowly asked. I sat up calmly, hands on the wheel. As I stepped on the gas, he jumped back. I heard Sophia shout, "Victoria! Are you insane?" I only drove away as though I hadn't heard her. On the way home, I got a call from Ethan's father, Sheldon Silver. He must have caught wind of something, as he asked me to bring Joy back to the Silver family estate. As soon as we arrived, Sheldon and Julianna Lurve, Ethan's parents, wrapped Joy in a warm embrace. They adored pups, especially their only granddaughter. After a moment of grandparental joy, they finally got to the point. They frowned upon hearing I had filed to break the mate bond. "We've heard about Ethan and that she-wolf," Sheldon began. "He went too far this time. But no matter what, you are the rightful Luna of this pack. ---- We won't allow some she-wolf of unknown origin to replace you." "Victoria," Julianna added gently. "Ethan was wrong, but Joy is still so young. For her sake, please reconsider. Talk things through with Ethan. You mustn't break the mate bond." I quietly listened the whole time as they pleaded sincerely. Once they finished, I reached into my bag and pulled out the medical report. Julianna's eyes lit up as soon as she saw it. "Oh my goodness! This is wonderful news!" She clapped her hands in delight. "The Silver family has only had one heir per generation. Who would've thought you'd conceive again? Once this baby is born, you'll be the pride of our family!" I watched their joy unfold, then calmly tucked the report away. "If you want the child, you must agree to let Ethan and me break the mate bond."
