Chapter 10 Showdown Chapter 10 Showdown Inside the VIP room at the Prestige Club, Gavin stared at the glass in his hand, eyes hazy, then tilted his chiseled jaw back and downed the drink in one go. Empty bottles littered the table in front of him, some toppled over. His buddies exchanged uneasy glances. Gavin, slow down, man. You fighting with Luna or what?" one of them ventured. At the mention of Luna's name, Gavin slurred, "What's wrong with Luna?" Then it's gotta be Violet, right?" lis drunken eyes snapped wide. "Don't you dare say her name!" Violet, you ungrateful..." His breathing grew ragged. "You... you got no heart." Little heartbreaker, I said we'd get the license. How could you..." efore he could finish, Gavin's eyes fluttered shut, and he slumped back on the couch, completely out of it. lis friends were stunned. Since when did Violet matter this much to him? Maybe we should call Violet to come get him?" someone suggested. Max Lang pulled out his phone, where he had Violet's number saved, and dialed. The phone rang and rang, but no one picked up. 'Any luck?" Gavin had gotten plastered before, usually over his precious "little sister" Luna. Back then, Violet always answered Max's calls in a flash, like she'd set his number to priority or something. But today? Nothing. No answer. Now what?" "Guess we gotta bother our little princess Luna then." When Luna rushed into the Prestige Club, Gavin was already blackout drunk. She frowned, her tone sharp, "Why'd Gavin drink so much tonight?" "Hey, Lana, we didn't pour it down his throat," one guy said. "He's just fighting with Violet, that's all." The air froze for a moment. The guy who spoke got a quick elbow from his friend. "Ha, don't listen to him. Probably just too excited you're back, Luna, so he had a few too many." Luna's expression wasn't exactly sunny. She didn't love playing nice with Gavin's friends, but she forced a smile. "Thanks, guys. I'll take him home." Gavin was tall-over half a foot taller than her-and Luna struggled to prop him up. "Gavin, you wanna crash at my place, or should I take you home?" 14:46 Chapter 10 Showdown Gavin, eyes unfocused, was too far gone to answer. Luna's lips curved slightly. "Alright, Gavin, no answer means my place it is." With effort, she stuffed him into a cab and gave the driver her apartment address. Gavin couldn't sit straight, his head flopping onto her shoulder, his warm, booze soaked breath grazing her skin as he mumbled. "Violet, how could you tear up our engagement photo?" "Violet, you're naughty. I oughta punish you." Luna's eyes darkened. So, he was drowning his sorrows over Violet tonight. Violet had tackled two big things that day. First, she made it crystal clear to Gavin that she was done with him. Second, she paid in full for the cozy apartment she was now calling home. It took every penny she'd saved over three years since graduation. When she held the deed in her hands, she felt like she'd been given a fresh start. Since it was still early, she headed straight to Miller Tech to have it out with her dad. The receptionist at Miller Tech didn't know Violet. Aside from Sylas's assistant and a couple of secretaries, hardly anyone had met the Miller family's eldest daughter. "Hi. I'd like to see Mr. Miller." The receptionist gave the polished woman a cool glance. "Do you have an appointment? No appointment, no meeting with Mr. Miller." "Just tell his assistant, Tom, that Violet's here. He'll know and let me up." The receptionist scoffed under her breath, muttering to a coworker, "Another one trying to pull strings." "Sorry, ma'am, Tom's out today. Why don't you come back another time?" Violet rarely came to Miller Tech, but the receptionist's condescending attitude got under her skin. "Hold on, I'll make a call." With a stony face, Violet dialed Sienna. "Sienna, I'm in the Miller Tech lobby. Can you tell the front desk to let me up to see my dad?" Sienna paused. "Oh, Violet, you didn't give them your name?" "Wait a sec, hand them the phone, I'll sort it out. Sorry, probably a new hire they don't know who you are, that's all." Sure enough, Sienna's word worked like a charm. The receptionist grudgingly opened the door for her, muttering, "What's she so smug about?" While waiting for the elevator, Violet ran into Leo Carter. "Violet, you at Miller Tech too?" Violet glanced at him. "Yeah, personal stuff. You here on business, Leo?" 7.8% Chapter 10 Showdown "Yup, got some things to discuss with Mr. Miller. Heard you've been killing it on some cases lately-Impressive for your age! Leo was a rival of her boss in the office, and his current wife used to be married to her boss. Violet just gave a faint smile, not biting. "See you, Leo. I'm heading up." On the twenty second floor, Violet got straight to the point. The head secretary's office used to be run by Sienna, and a few old timers there recognized Violet, ushering her into the CEO's office. "Violet, what brings you here?" Violet took a deep breath, closed the door with a smile, and got to it. "Dad, I need to talk to you about something." Sylas's brow furrowed; he wasn't thrilled about his daughter showing up at the office. "Can't this wait till we're home?" Violet ignored his tone and pulled out a chair across from him. "I think this is better discussed here." Sylas set down his pen, his face serious. "Alright, what is it?" "I've broken up with Gavin. Dad, you'd better recall those wedding invitations before it gets messy." (0) (0)
