Chapter 3 Chapter 3 The concrete floor was partially covered by a threadbare blanket that had probably started white but was somewhere between gray and yellow ? Grellow . Not an ideal color for a blanket . The only other thing in the cage was a flat , discolored pillow . The damn thing didn't have a pillowcase , and there was a circular stain on it that suspiciously resembled the pee stains on my little brothers ' sheets growing up . I walked three steps to the back and ducked down to peek under a half- wall made of the same metal cage material . It looked like it could be raised and lowered by someone outside the cage if needed . As it was , my wolf would barely fit under it . The " back " was a tiny enclosed square with a single large orange bucket . The shit bucket . The thought - and smell - made me want to vomit . I ducked back under the short wall and walked up to the gate of the cage . My fingers poked the lock , slowly moving up and down as I tried to feel for the spinning numbers that would make it a combination lock . If it was a combination lock , maybe I could figure it out somehow and use that to get out . My pinky brushed over a tiny slit on the lock , and I contorted my other fingers to feel it better . A sigh escaped me when I got a feeling of it . A keyhole . I dropped the lock , stepping to one side of the cage . The one up against that side was empty , other than a yellowed , stained pillow and blanket . Turning to the other side , I took the single step required to reach that wall . My fingers laced through the cage as I pushed my face to it , peeking in . When my eyes collided with those of the wolf from earlier , I watched him for a moment " How did you get in here ? " I asked , lowering down to my knees and watching him through the fence dividing us . " Did your mate reject you and then sell you ? " He barely batted an eye at my questions , and didn't deign to respond . " You must be able to understand what I'm saying . " I gestured to him . My energy was fading fast , and with it , my will do anything but cry and sleep . " Hello ? Anyone home ? " I let go of the cage and waved my hand through the air . I had his attention , so why wasn't he shifting to talk to me ? " He's rabid , " a male voice said from across the room . I spun toward my cage's door , sliding over to it . Putting my nose to the cage , I peered out in an effort to figure out who'd spoken . " Rabid ? " I wondered what that meant . " His wolf took control and won't rescind it , " the guy said . I couldn't really see him - he looked like a shadow from where I stood . " I didn't know that was possible , " I squinted , trying to make out his form . " It's typically only a problem for rejected wolves , " the guy said . " Well , I'm about as far from rabid as possible . My wolf wouldn't even shift to protect us . " My eyes strained as I tried harder to make him out . It didn't do me any good , but gave me something to focus on . " You were rejected ? " the guy asked. " Who are you ? " I changed the subject . " Where are we ? How did you and these other wolves get here ? " 00:22 Rejected Luna : Trapped with the Rabid Alpha Dreame - Read Romance Chapter 3 You ask a lot of questions , Ginger . His voice lowered . Ginger ? Oh , hell no . I'd been rejected , trapped in the trunks of two different cars , and tased - 1 wasn't dealing with that damn nickname again . ' Don't call me that . " I glared at him , though he couldn't see me . ies , my ancestors were Irish , but my family had moved to the U.S. three generations ago . Around the time humans found out werewolves existed , actually , because America was the Land of Understanding or some crap like that . And yes , my hair was natural . And despite the thousands of jokes about it throughout my elementary , middle school , and high school years , I was 1000 % certair had a soul . Even if that soul's mate was an asshole . opened my mouth to lecture him , and started with , " My name is- " le interrupted . " Don't . Don't give your real name to anyone you didn't know before you came here . If they learn your name , they can find your pack . " My eyes widened slightly , anger vanishing . " Shit . Really? " " Great . You're clueless . " That's sweet . Really , really sweet . " I scowled in his direction . omewhere nearby , I heard a door open and close . Heavy footsteps sounded on the concrete . Ginger , scoot away from the cage door , " the guy across the aisle growled . His voice was gruff , and low . Maybe even a little urgent . nstinct told me to argue because he used the nickname I hated . But those same damn instincts had landed me in Asshole's trunk , and then in the tiny cage I Occupied . They couldn't be trusted any more than the jerk in the cage across the aisle . stepped back from the door . ( 2 ) ( 0 )
