---- Chapter 14 "Why didn't you tell me about such an important thing sooner?" Richard felt innocent. He reported it to Dean as soon as he received the news. Dean was so angry that he gritted his teeth and ended up in the emergency room that night. After learning that Eliana and Asher had gotten married, the people at the Barton family's mansion had been urging him to bring Eliana home to meet them. "Do you think | should wear this red one or the white one?" Asher's face had always been stern, but it changed completely the moment he saw Eliana. He gently tapped her nose with affection. "You look beautiful in either of them." Maybe | should go in the red one. It's our first time going back to the Barton family, and it should be a bit formal." Asher was about to say something, but Eliana was already heading to the bedroom to change. He shook his head helplessly and gave a doting smile. ---- Eliana was dressed beautifully and had prepared gifts for everyone in the Barton family. But upon arriving at the family's mansion, she quickly realized they didn't seem to like her much. Asher's cousins even faintly showed their hostility. Eliana remained composed. After distributing the gifts, she talked to Asher and then headed to the restroom. "There are plenty of beautiful women in Bexwell. | really don't know what you see in her." "That's right. The gifts she brought were so cheap. How stingy she is!" "| heard she refused the arranged marriage to you for another guy before and even broke ties with her family. Asher, how can you put up with that?" Eliana paused, and her steps involuntarily became lighter. Asher had never mentioned her three years with Dean before. She was curious about his thoughts on the matter. Asher stayed silent and prompted the others to say more. "| heard she even had a miscarriage. How disgusting!" "Asher, you should teach her a lesson at the wedding. ---- Let her know our family doesn't accept just any trash." Asher echoed, "You're right. Our family indeed can't have any trash." Eliana's heart sank a little, but then she heard him continue. "So you can get out right now. Our family doesn't need trash like you." Eliana was startled and accidentally knocked over a vase. Asher rushed over and checked her over repeatedly. "Are you okay? Are you injured?" Eliana shook her head. With a dark expression, Asher held her hand and led her to face the others. "Katharine Barton, apologize to your sister-in -law." Katharine was clearly unwilling. She hid behind her grandmother. She was silently refusing to apologize to Eliana. "Have | been too lenient all these years so you have the illusion that I'm easy-going? If you don't apologize, you can leave with Katharine." Katharine's grandmother said firmly, "Katharine, apologize!" "I'm sorry, Eliana. | won't say that again. | was just talking nonsense." Katharine spoke while slapping her own mouth, ---- showing sincere remorse. "Eliana is my wife now. If you disrespect her, you are disrespecting me. Behave well, and everyone can live peacefully." With that, Asher took Eliana's hand and left. Before leaving, he suddenly said to his assistant, "Retrieve the gifts Eliana gave out. Don't waste good items on those who don't deserve them." Seeing that Asher was unhappy, Eliana gently comforted him. "I'm actually fine. What they said is true, and | didn't take it to heart." Asher leaned his head on her shoulder. "You don't need to defend them. I've tolerated them just for my reputation, which is not good actually." Asher had grown up with his cousins and knew that they were not good people. Eliana nodded. Before she could react, Asher suddenly put a ring around her finger. "A belated wedding gift for you." Eliana was pleasantly surprised. It was a pair of rings she had designed when she was twenty. She had shown the design draft to Dean, but he had criticized it harshly. ---- Dean regarded it as trash, while Asher saw it as a treasure. "| got the design draft from Brenden and had it made. Do you like it?" Eliana had just nodded when the car suddenly screeched to a halt. "Mr. Barton, someone's blocking the way ahead."
