Ved crashed on the sea. It was cold, the sky was covered by dark clouds for as far as he could see. Thunder roared and lightning flashed above him. Winds howled and the sea was churning. He looked up at where he appeared and saw nothing. There was no crack in the sky but his internal compass told him that where he came from. Then he sank under the sea. The sea was more peaceful below without any waves but it was also much darker. Fortunately he could see just fine in darkness. Then he started swimming west. Suddenly he caught faint sounds. It sounded like explosions but beneath them he could swear he heard human voices. Or maybe it’s just a beast who can talk, like Ursela, he couldn’t be sure until he sees it. However his doubts were erased by what the vessel spirit said next. " Boy, go west, I can sense human souls there. Be quick, they seem to be in trouble." The vessel spirit said excitedly. However it wasn’t the only one, Ved was excited as well but also nervous. It’d been 25 years since he last saw a human, well the last human he saw stabbed him in the heart but that besides the point. It’s not like that asshole will be in this world as well unless they also reincarnated like him which was unlikely. The air exploded around him and sonic booms shook the sea as he sped up. Then the voices grew clearer the closer he got and from the distance he saw a giant iron ship. There was a white transparent sphere around the ship and eight gigantic tentacles each a kilometres long spun around the ship creating a huge sea vortex over 2 hundred metres wide At first, Ved thought it was an octopus but the creature below the sea had a more pointed head. He realised it was a giant red squid. He stopped and watched for a while. While he had the urge to help, he didn’t know how humans would react to him, he was a beast after all. The ship tilted as it was being drawn in by the vortex. The giant crates on top fell into the ocean, easily passing through the sphere like it was not even there. But the waves bounced back when they crashed on it. Which told him, the sphere can only block things from outside. Suddenly a figure stood up on the ship. She had breastplate armour and guards on her arms. Her body was unsteadily leaning on a giant sword. Even from this distance, Ved could tell she was exhausted, her essence was almost depleted. ’ Do you want me to save them?’ He asked. The vessel spirit replied in a bored tone. " Do what you want." Ved was surprised. ’ You don’t sound as excited as you were before.’ " They’re a disappointment, their wills are too weak, way too weak." Ved was confused. ’ Isn’t that easy to solve? As long as they cultivate to a higher rank then their will will grow as well.’ The vessel spirit sighed. " You’re oversimplifying it. Will is more complicated than that, it’s one of the most mysterious forces in the world. Think of it in terms of quantity and quality. While it is true that a higher rank and grade can strengthen your will, that only in terms of quantity. It’s like building a house, increasing your rank and grade is like making the house bigger. With more room for more functions, that quantity, quality would be upgrading the building material. The only thing that can effect the quality of will is the strength of your convictions or healing from soul damage. Cultivation cannot change that, only the tempering of the world can." Ved believed he understood but he couldn’t figure out the significance of it. ’ What are the benefits of having a will with a higher quality anyways.’ " You don’t have to bother yourself about that for now. Perhaps you should help them first." He turned his attention to the ship. ’ oh right.’ Before he could move he heard a loud booming sound. A flaming cannon ball blasted one of the tentacles into pieces. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ 𝔫𝔬𝔳𝔢𝔩~𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢~𝔫𝔢𝔱 Ved was surprised by that firepower. This was a rank 4 beast, for a cannon to be able to blast it to pieces was insane. He wondered if human weapons were really that powerful in this world. More cannons attacked but then the tentacles regenerated. He saw the despair in the leader’s eyes. She fell on one knee and tears streamed down her eyes then she stood up and raised her sword. " That little girl is a bit interesting." The vessel spirit sounded amused. She roared and faced her enemy head on even though she was obviously on her last leg. The rest of her friends couldn’t even move. Ved finally decided to help. He shot a bolt of lightning which shattered one of the tentacles. The humans stopped and watched in surprise. He shot out towards the squid like a torpedo. His body collided with it, the sea exploded and water rose tens of metres into the air. The waves continued crashing against each other. Their bodies flew to the ocean floor like meteors. The earth shook and the shockwave blasted a giant crater on the sea floor. The squid wrapped it tentacles around him and constricted, he felt it trying to crush his scales to no avail. He slashed one of them with his claw and it fell off. This caught him off guard, he did not expect them to be so weak. Maybe the cannons weren’t so powerful after all, the tentacles were just soft. The tentacle regenerated. Before Ved could react, a black soul force covered the squids body. It aura grew stronger and he felt like he was swimming in ink. Then it pointed it siphon at him, he knew what was coming. ’ Oh shit.’ then a powerful jet of black ink hit him in the face. His body flew up and he was blasted out of the sea. As he soared through the air he turned his attention to the ship and transmitted his voice. ’ Leave.’ the humans just stared at him with blank stares. ’ NOW’ he shouted. Then they came back to their senses and ran around the ship. Suddenly hundreds of black tentacles slightly smaller than the first eight rose above the sea. They were made from ink. The humans worked even faster, the desperation in their eyes grew. Ved roared and fired a bolt of lightning to block an ink tentacle heading for the ship. Then he crashed into the sea and lunged at the squid again.
